Latest Updates from Our Project:

Poster Map Is Double-Sided!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 14, 2022 at 06:31:56 AM

Good afternoon, Family—

Thanks to your continued support and enthusiasm spreading the word, you’ve unlocked yet another stretch goal! The poster, included in the standard and limited Deluxe Edition versions of the Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game (and as a digital file with the PDF) is now double-sided!

For our next goal, we’d like to upgrade the Deluxe Edition’s features once again. You already unlocked eight pages of art plates (on this campaign’s first day). Now we’d like to add additional ribbon bookmarks.

The Deluxe Edition already features a bound-in satin ribbon bookmark. That’s not just an aesthetic feature—when playing (or especially GMing) an RPG, many’s the time you’ll want to mark a page with some bit of key information. In fact, you may find yourself wanting to reference that map of Glamorgan, the text about that NPC who witnessed the strange events at the church, and the stats for the creature that’s lurking in the woods outside of town—all at once.

So at $900,000 we’ll add two more satin bookmarks to the Deluxe Edition, for a total of three. This striking limited-edition book, made especially for the Kickstarter, will become even more useful and beautiful.

New to the Cypher System? We’re holding an AMA on Twitter this afternoon, answering your questions about the game system. You can find us at @montecookgames. Drop by and shoot us any questions you might have, Family!

Thanks again for your support!

Additional Adventure Unlocked!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 14, 2022 at 05:27:34 AM

Hello, Family—

You have done it again: you’ve hit yet another stretch goal. We are now upgrading the corebook with a second adventure for you to run, play, or simply draw inspiration from. This upgrade applies to the standard edition, the limited Deluxe Edition, and the PDF of the Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game.

Of course, while the main book is at the heart of the RPG experience and the only part that’s absolutely critical for play, we are also funding a number of other items that make your gaming easier, more convenient, or more atmospheric. One of these is the GM’s Campaign Journal.

As a GM, when you build and run your Old Gods of Appalachia adventures, you’ll flesh out your campaign with notes about the people and places featured in your game. You’ll come up with names and personalities for NPCs, like that fellow your characters meet at the train station, that granny who sold them a warding charm, or the woman who runs the dry goods store. You’ll make notes about that house in the holler or that small mining town. You’ll jot down ideas for your next adventure, a timeline of events leading up to the current one, or important things to remember from the session you just ran. The GM Campaign Journal helps you develop and organize all of this and more. And it’s presented like a vintage journal, with a soft debossed cover and a bound-in ribbon bookmark—similar to a family bible.

At $700,000 we’ll upgrade the journal, making it even more functional and beautiful. We’ll increase the page count to support an even longer, more robust campaign, and add gilt edging. Prepping your campaign will be a real joy!

Please keep telling the world about Alternate Appalachia, the Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game, and this Kickstarter campaign. The more we can grow our family, the more stretch goals we can unlock!

Campaign Journal Upgraded!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Apr 14, 2022 at 05:27:29 AM

Family, you never fail to humble us when we ask for your support. We could have never foreseen, even with all the dark forces at our command, the level of response that fell upon us this day. From the bottom of our black and endless hearts, thank you.

Those words come from Cam Collins and Steve Shell, the creators and voices of the Old Gods of Appalachia podcast, and we here at MCG share their gratitude. Our opening day yesterday was quite an experience—you not only funded the Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game, but also marched us through a whopping four stretch goals. All of us here at Monte Cook Games, and the Old Gods of Appalachia team, are grateful and humbled by the enormity and generosity of your support, and your excitement for this game.

To top off that stunning first day, you’ve gone a step further and hit another stretch goal overnight! As a result, we’re upgrading the GM Campaign Journal. By adding gilt page edging and additional page count, we’ll make the vintage-styled journal for GMs even more beautiful and useful.

For our next goal, let’s take a gander at the poster map you all unlocked yesterday. This will be a large poster (~21” x 33” [53 cm x 84 cm]) featuring the primary map of Alternate Appalachia, included with both the standard and Deluxe Edition versions of the Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game (and as a digital file with the PDF). At $800,000, we’ll make this poster double-sided, featuring stunning art or additional cartography on the reverse.

Please keep spreading the word. The more people hear about Alternate Appalachia, the Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game, and this Kickstarter campaign, the faster we can reach this and future stretch goals. Plus, there's less than 24 hours for your friends to get in on the Kickstarter exclusive Barrow & Locke scrip coin, and you don't want to leave them waiting on the porch, do you family?

We’ve Funded! Thank you for your support!
about 2 years ago – Wed, Apr 13, 2022 at 09:03:17 PM

Thank you, Family!

You’ve done it! Because of your incredible support, the Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game will now become a reality, and you’ll be able to spin your own stories set in the dark woods, still hollers, and isolated mining towns of Alternate Appalachia.

As we continue the campaign, we have a number of stretch goals we hope to hit so we can add even more to all the mountain of lore, art, creatures, characters, and cyphers within the book; the cache gaming tools; and the awesome Alternate Appalachia ephemera!

Speaking of which, our first stretch goal is to add a poster-sized map to every print version of the book! As you explore the towns, mines, forests, and the other places between and below them, it’s always handy to know where you are. This Alternate Appalachia map will feature notable locations from the podcast that you’ll recognize, and a few other places to explore. We’ll unlock this stretch goal at $200,000!

Be sure to help spread the word—the more people who join the family, the faster we’ll be able to unlock this and other stretch goals!

Poster Map Added!
about 2 years ago – Wed, Apr 13, 2022 at 09:02:32 PM

Thank you, Family!

What an amazing launch! No sooner than we announced the first stretch goal, it seems, you’ve already hit it and sent us on our way to the next one.

We are adding a poster map to the Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game; it will now be part of both the standard and limited Deluxe Edition.

We’re still moving very quickly! As our next stretch goal, we’ll increase the size of the corebook (again, both the standard and deluxe) by adding roughly one dozen additional creatures to the text. We’ll unlock this upgrade at $350,000.

Our momentum this morning is truly incredible. Thank you so much, Family—and please keep spreading the word!
