The Deluxe Edition comes with a cool dust jacket. Is that the only difference?

The limited Deluxe Edition will have a range of deluxe features—a ribbon bookmark, gilded page edges, reversible dust jacket featuring alternate cover designs, and a premium vegan-leather cover with foil stamping and embossing, at a minimum. We’ve also already unlocked stretch goals that further upgrade this beautiful, limited-edition version of the game.

In terms of game content, the two editions are the same.

How do I get my rewards?

Rewards for this campaign will fulfill over time as each reward is created and released.

We fulfill Kickstarter rewards through our online store—the MCG Shop—which puts you, the backer, in charge of redeeming your rewards as they are released (we don’t collect shipping addresses through Kickstarter, nor Backerkit, and rewards do not ship automatically).

To redeem your rewards, you’ll need an account on the MCG Shop, and we’ll need to know the email address you used to create your account (we use your email address to assign your reward coupons).

If you don’t already have an MCG Shop account, it’s quick and easy to make one at https://www.montecookgames.com/store/my-account/

Overview of the fulfillment process: 1. We’ll notify you by email when it is time to redeem your reward(s). 2. You’ll log onto your MCG Shop account and go to your Coupons page. 3. From your Coupons page, you’ll click on a coupon code, which will add that product to your shopping cart and make it free for you. 4. Once you’ve clicked on all the Coupons you want to redeem, you’ll pay for shipping, complete the checkout process, and then we’ll get to work packing and shipping your order.

Is the content of the Resource Deck also in the book?

Yes. The Resource Deck aids play by giving you easy access to key game elements during prep and play. Cards representing some types of items, such as cyphers, can be shared with the players. The content is entirely derived from the corebook, however—the deck does not give you any additional content.

When will I get my rewards?

We estimate almost all of the rewards to deliver in Spring 2023 or sooner. We’ll stay in touch through Kickstarter Updates, Cypher Chronicles (our newsletter), and social media.

How long do I have to redeem my Kickstarter rewards?

You have one year from the release date of the product to redeem it as a reward from the MCG Shop.

Will PDF backers get the poster map, or other features of the main book unlocked through stretch goals?

Corebook upgrades unlocked through stretch goals apply to the PDF too. (Except in the rare case of stretch goals that only affect the physical production of the book.) So in the case of the poster map, it will be provided as a separate high-res file alongside the PDF.

How does shipping work? Is it included in my pledge? Will all my rewards come at once?

Because the rewards for our Kickstarter campaigns often ship at several different times over the course of many months, our fulfillment process may be different from other campaigns you’ve backed.

A few weeks after a campaign ends, we invite backers to BackerKit, our pledge management platform. This allows you to confirm your pledge and add on any products you might have missed. Later, when a reward is ready to fulfill, you’ll use the MCG Shop to manage the process. This puts you, the backer, in charge of redeeming rewards at your convenience, and ensures we always have your up-to-date address at the time we ship a reward.

Here’s a brief look at how it works:

  1. You’ll receive an email from us when a reward is ready to redeem.
  2. You’ll log on to your account the MCG Shop. (If you don’t have an account, it’s easy to make one on the MCG Shop: https://www.montecookgames.com/store/my-account).
  3. You’ll go to your Coupons page and click on the coupon for the reward, which automatically adds the reward to your cart. If you have multiple rewards, or want to make purchases, you can add them all to your cart before checking out.
  4. Check out! You’ll give us your address and pay for shipping (for physical rewards) at that time.

All backers pay for shipping when they redeem their rewards. We offer a variety of domestic and international shipping methods from which you can choose. As of this writing, basic domestic shipping is $7 per shipment, but we do not control future postal rates, so that cost is subject to change. International shipping is based on postal and shipping rates at the time of the order, and varies by destination and shipment weight.

You can find detailed information about our shipping process here: https://www.montecookgames.com/kickstarter-reward-redemption-and-fulfillment/

I moved. How do I update my address?

You don’t need to give us an updated shipping address because you’ll enter your shipping address each time you redeem a reward.

How are you ensuring respectful and accurate representation of Native American and other underrepresented cultures?

The Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game is primarily focused on the industrial era and its impact on the people and creatures—natural and supernatural—of Alternate Appalachia. It’s too early in the game’s development to answer specific questions on the details of the content, but be assured that we always do our best to be respectful of marginalized and underrepresented cultures and groups. Among other efforts, designer Shanna Germain, the Old Gods of Appalachia team, and all of us here at Monte Cook Games, work closely with appropriate and experienced sensitivity readers when needed to ensure respectful representation and accuracy.

"Ships anywhere in the world" does not mean free shipping

“Ships anywhere in the world” is Kickstarter’s way of saying that backers anywhere can support our project. It does not mean free shipping. We collect the cost of shipping at the time of reward fulfillment.

Do I get the Barrow & Locke scrip coin?

There are two ways you might receive the Barrow & Locke scrip coin:

If you signed up to be notified about the campaign before it launched, you get the Barrow & Locke scrip coin as part of your rewards. It does not matter when in the campaign you make your pledge—you’re “locked in” to get the scrip coin with your rewards.

If you back this campaign for a reward in the first 48 hours, you get the scrip as part of your rewards. If you were a first-48-hours backer, it doesn’t matter whether you signed up to be notified before hand. Everyone who backs for a reward in the first 48 hours gets the scrip coin.

You’re eligible for the scrip coin even if you only back for digital rewards. (For example, if you back just for the PDF.)

You only get one coin, even if you signed up to be notified and backed in the first 48 hours.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
